PAUL T
On my wifes 2004 Deville, I was cleaning out the floor and I noticed the carpet was all wet. I smelled it and it is not antifreeze. Is there a drain under the window on the firewall or a drain for the AC that will let water in when plugged? Anyone have a diagram.
Logan
Hopefully not a heater core on a Deville. The dash has to come out to replace. There is a HVAC drain. These can get clogged. And....Does the car have a sunroof? James Woods
**oops I didn't see Logans post. I basically said what Logan said** As long as your not smelling antifreeze your got a big break not being a heater core. The dex cool doesn't seem to smell as bad as typical green coolant but it is slippery to the touch. Also any coolant inside the car usually will leave a slime coating to the windows. The drain for the a/c evaporator could be plugged or loose from the evap box causing the water that normally drips outside of the car to the passenger floor board. If you have a sunroof the sunroof drains could be plugged or loose. Its amazing how much stuff ends up inside the sunroof frames. Those little helicopters from oak trees cause a lot of plugged sunroof drains.
PAUL T
No sunroof. I 3 have a Maple trees in the front yard. I have no coating on the windows. Where is the HVAC drain located?
winterset
If you have been running the a/c recently, it can be from the drain, but if you had recent rain, it can be the seals around the windows, or doors. Finding and cleaning the a/c drain is probably the easiest first step, but it might not solve the problem.
Logan
No sunroof = no sunroof drains. Check the HVAC drain first. BodybyFisher
I remember the guru used to say that the evaporator box used to retain water (as Logan said) and the drain needed to be snaked with a hanger to clear it out. I currently have a friend who has this problem in a Seville, every time it rains it gets worse. I need to snake the drain, there is a little rubber hose that sticks down from the HVAC box, watch out you may be a rush of water. By the way, while I am on the subject of HVAC boxes, does anyone know the official name of that plastic HVAC cover? Mine is cracked and I would like to replace it while I have the engine out.. barczy01
The drain is almost in the middle of the firewall. Obviously you have to lift the car up insert a wire or hanger and watch out.

If your friends car gets worse when it rains, I wouldn't suspect the HVAC drain - note this is not for the original poster. The original poster has a clogged HVAC drain. I think the part is called an HVAC cover if I remember correctly. It has been a few years since I did the job. If your blower motor is the original design with the 1/2" thick inertial plate, you might as well replace it with the new design with the fiberglass heat shield while the engine it out. I didn't and mine failed about a year later... Kevin '93 Fleetwood Brougham '05 Deville '04 Deville 2013 Silverado Z71
BodybyFisher
Yes Kevin, good pick up, it seemed to get worse when it rained, I attributed it to a clogged drain. We had very hard rain and she said that when she turned the key it sounded funny in the dash. I surmised that the fan may have been in water given the interior leak but it might be the aspirator motor too for the thermostat, its tough diagnosing via the owners impressions. She parks on a hill with the nose up. What would cause that? The cracked cover is in my 97 ETC Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm

If its not installed correctly or the cover is cracked it'll let rain water in and build up in the evap box. Kind of makes sense with car facing uphill too. PAUL T
I think it is from the HVAC drain. I remember cleaning out my 94 Deville HVAC drain and I know what you mean by watch out. I just touched the drain in my 94 and it let go with me underneath it and nowhere to go. I will post back when I get under the 2004.
