Although this car is not being built as a show car, it will appear in many videos, some indie films, several hotrod parades, shows, online forums and hopefully a car magazine or two. I am not wanting anything wild or gaudy or that reeks with bad taste. I am aiming at a classic muscle car theme that is paired with some functionality (ram-air, adjustable wing, brake coolers and front spoiler (air dam).

The stripes will be permanent as will most of the vinyl lettering, but the racing numbers, class letters, and sponsorship signs will be magnetic vinyl and will not be on the car for everyday use (too much of a cop magnet).

The car will eventually be a deep red color, maybe a crimson or maroon. The paint I have is in very good shape so I will keep the car as a “blonde” for now (Champaign Gold); I just wish there were fewer door dings and scrapes).

This is the stripe kit and ram-air, wing, spoiler look I like the most and (except for the placement of the side stripe) should work well with the Eldorado body lines. I love the adjustable Mach 1 wing; I just wish they were not so expensive. The chin spoiler would work well too as this Mach 1 is very close to the size of my Eldorado.

This is better placement of the side stripe; note the bolt on hood scoop. I have mixed feelings about one like this. But I will have hood pins just like these:

Here is the same paint job in Champaign Gold and will reflect the look I am after with the current color:

The same basic paint theme has been placed on many hotrods and is very popular. I do like the idea of a solid hood stripe rather than a solid black hood.

I don't think the mustang that is by the P-51 has a BOLT ON hood scoop...

I think that is the shaker hood... the air scoop is fastened to the carburetor and sticks up thru the hood.

I think you are right about that. Good catch. I was using my phone and had to zoom in to find the opening in the shadows.

I am not going to go with a shaker hood.

But one thing I am kicking the tires about is the 71-73 Mach 1 ram air with twin NASA scoops (first picture ). I have two of those hoods leftover from when I used to own several of those cars. A friend of a friend has the skills and equipment needed to cut the raised portion of that hood with scoops and weld it into my hood making it look factory. I also found a bolt on version made of fiberglass for $129.

Still in the concept stage there... Also like the ram air of the last generation Trans Ams.

What ever I go with, it will be functional... I hate how I have to move the stock air cleaner out of the way to check my transmission fluid.

I painted the grille Satin Black. Because I chose to keep the chrome trim, it doesn't stand out all that much now, but the planned stripes will really make it stand out. This was a very time consuming tape job because the chrome trim and the grille are all one piece. It was easy to get out of the frame. And I was able to remove the wreath without breaking it, but I taped off the Cadillac shield portion.

Yeah, the grille is the weak style point, by far, on this car. I actually liked the look of it with the grille removed from the frame; the four vertical supports looked like fangs in an angry grin.

If I can find the right shape of black molded honeycomb material I am going to make a custom grille with driving lights in it kind of like the 71-72 Mach 1 Mustang, but with the Caddy emblem.

BTW: that's not overspray on the chrome in the daytime picture, it is the reflection of the top of my head; I cleaned the grille with soap and water before painting it and the chrome is like a mirror again.

Test fit; 70 Shelby Mustang chin spoiler on Eldorado.

This is an original 1970 Shelby Mustang chin spoiler made of fiberglass. It was removed by a Mustang restoration shop.

I held it in place with document clips for the fitting. I didn't realize that I had bumped it before I took the picture, so it was a little crooked in these shots.

I wanted to try on the plastic 71-72 Mach 1 spoiler as well, but they did not have one at this location. The 71-72 spoilers are 2" wider and would wrap up a little bit on the side of the car.

I can make the pictured Shelby spoiler work if I like it better than the Mach 1's.

I studied this fitting for a while and decided that the best way to do it would be to replace the soft rubber wind cover between the underside of the bumper cover and lower radiator core support with thick plastic. I could then drill the holes for the spoiler in the best location.

I could also mount the spoiler to it with a spring loaded piano hinge so that if I scrape the ground, The spoiler could retract without breaking. I would not need to do that with the Mach 1 spoiler since it flexes better than the fiberglass.

The Mustang builder even liked the way this looked on my car.

I'm working on a CTS style power bulge for my Eldorado hood. Problem is there are no stand-alone units available - only $$$$$$ megabuck CTS-V hoods.

CW-658031.jpg

I found an affordable "Eleanor" Mustang "scoop" for a late 60's application. The measurements were right so I ordered one.

hdsc17_1.784.jpg

I did a test fitting.... Looks to be the right size and will create room for a breather to be mounted on top of the engine. ... Now I need to find the right scoop to build a functional ram-air system that looks "right" for the car.

Thanks. I'm working on the front suspension right now (see that thread in this forum). I'll get back to body mods after I get the suspension build completed and address an oil leak that has gotten much worse while the car has been parked over the last year.

However, I've also been planning the mods to make a Fiero wing adjustable and have bought a few things for it.

Love the body mods, I have a 68 Camaro front spoiler on my 93. it flows well with the rear glass spoiler. I also dont need my indicators anymore as I have those white led day time running lights that blink yellow when its time to indicate. Matches the hids way better

i changed my mind. The car will be show car. I wanted to align the body panels before installing the hood pins. EVERYTHING was out of alignment. I've spent days adjusting it.

I am very impressed!  Yes, I am bodybyfisher you have seen on the FB pages.

I am sorry I have not replied to the other post regarding the brake calipers, I will, been busy and hate typing on a smart phone.

Keeping and eye on this, keep up the tweaks!  Impressive!

By the way, I have pulled back hard from the Cadillac FB groups, they are truely the wild wild west and disturbing to me.  I plan to spend more time in the friendly comforts of this forum now.  I had drifted to FB groups but learned my lesson ;-)

I've been working up a concept for vinyl rocker stripes. Since the car is an Eldorado Sport Coupe by its official name, why not go with that and focus on the word "Sport" giving the non-Cadillac crowd the impression that it means something more than the base model of 2002.

It will be a few years before I do a color change, so I'm going with the colors of Red, Black and Chrome to accent the C5 Vette brakes hiding behind the Chrome wheels.

The Black side stripes will be placed just above the side skirts and have a classic triple stipe design where the middle stripe is much thicker. Also there will be a Red pen stripe in it that either touches or replaces the top Black stripe.

The word "Sport" will be exaggerated in Red script. The S will reach above the stripe and the bottom of the "P" will extend bellow it.

I'm limited to what I can do with WORD, but did some experiments with various other colors. I did not have anything available to simulate body color lettering in cut vinyl so I skipped that option for this picture. What I did do was simulate Chrome, and use Red, and White for consideration. Here is how the colors look together. What combinations do you like? Keep in mind that the windshield banner will have Chrome and Red Lettering.

The Eldorado now has Chrome hood pins with custom Red lanyards. The hood and fenders also now have even gaps.

The 5 MPH impact shocks that hold the front bumper have leaky seals. The oil loss is preventing the bumper from staying in place, so I cannot get the middle of it to stay aligned with the grille. I will eventually replace them and get the bumper located correctly.

(NOTE: the licence plate holder was left off for now to better show the middle.)
