Newsday: Cadillac Eldorado was an oversized hit

It was a car that gave very literal meaning to "crushing the competition."

Horsepower drove the 1960s while conspicuous consumption pushed the 1970s to new physical limits.

Stand at the front corner of a Cadillac Eldorado and gaze - forever - down its long flanks and you'll get the picture. There's no end in sight and no boundaries that Cadillac wasn't prepared to push.

Bruce,

I had two of these eldo's years ago. My first was a dark green w/blk padded top and blk leather int. The other was white w/ the same top and interior. Both were 68's. Wish I still had them. Fantastic cars. Towards the end, the main problem was finding gas with a high enough octain rating.

I has a '78 ElDorado Biarritz for several years...

Sometimes I wish I had kept it.

It just GLIDED over the road... you never felt any bumps in the road... LOL

Used to drive it in parades with one or two of my nieces sitting on top, with their legs hanging down thru the sunroof, and they would throw candy at the kids watching the parade.... :):)

It looked just like this one... I even had the correct colored hubcaps on it.
