Patience ??

Despite everybody thinks the guy is a nice one, I personally would not stand such BS.

Not sure what you are saying adallak, I think everyone agrees that Jake is a nice guy, I have spoken to him twice myself, he is a very nice guy, but that does not excuse what is going on with his business

Mike, how many times he told Airmike the parts're going to be shipped "tomorrow"? I suspect when he tells that to a customer, he already knows it is not going to happen, otherwise Airmike would have his parts many months ago.

At this point I don't know what to do. I didn't want to mix and match any studs, and I have 19 of 20 installed.

It has been one more week now and now parts, no info of any kind. Refund of my money will fix nothing. I think friday when I get a minute during business hours I will contact ARP and see what they can recommend. I don't get time during the business day.

adallak, what would you do? since you wouldn't stand for such business, thanks to all for any advice

Congratulations! Nice photos, and the perfect car in the XLR. I wonder if KHE would be interested in this car

Which one? The XLR or the STS? I'd have to add on to my garage!

Are you short one stud or did you not get the last one installed and are waiting for timing chain components?

Airmike,

I do not know the guy as well as you or BBF does, but what I do know is that the worst scammers are those who are extremely nice and apologetic. That approach allows them say, borrow money and keep it for years. They want to comfort you with the thought you are dealing with a NICE guy who just happened to be in a difficult situation and who will eventually return whatever he owed. That will never happen.

End the scam ASAP and move on. Now, I am not saying the guy is a scammer, but his behavior matches the pattern I have described.

Are you short one stud or did you not get the last one installed and are waiting for timing chain components?

I actually ruined the 20th stud. I took one stud and jammed 2 nuts on the top, (not overly tight) and used a deep socket on a el cheapo cordless drill to run it down each hole after drilling and taping to check depth and thread integrity. After deciding they were all good, I went to take the nuts off and the top one came right off. The lower one would not move, either direction, by hand or with an impact! I assume a shard of steel got in the threads and jammed it. In any case by the time I did get it off the stud was ruined. Jake has stated that he will send one free along with the timing chain parts, for my "inconvenience" (what an understatement).. when he sends my gaskets.

KHE I figure the "which car statement" was in jest, but let me tell you, if adding on to your garage is all that is keeping you from an xlr, you need to get to adding on! :glare: The real problem with one is when friends and family get around it, it turns into a carnival ride. top up, top down, give me a ride, me next etc. etc...

sorry about the sidetrack. Its been so long since I got to drive the sts, I don't even remember what its like, but I do remember I love(d) that car. I am just so fed up with it and trying to move, build a shop, work 12 hour days-I don't see how I am going to put it back together now, even if the parts arrived yesterday. which they didn't!!!

By the way, all forum members, this is one of my highlights every (almost) day, getting on here. If my memory was any good I would be a caddy encyclopedia. I am like a sponge soaking up all these stories and info, but someone keeps squeezing this sponge out..best forum ever

From the purolator shipping site

03:03 PM Picked up by Purolator at Reception from bud RA5116 at ALTONA, MB via WINNIPEG, MB depot

It seems I really do have parts on the way!!

"Anew water pump and thermostat is being shipped as well at no charge. Also a new oil level sensor. Don't have the sprockets (except the intermediate srocket) for a 99 but all guides, tensioners and chains are on their way at no cost."

"I am sorry I couldn't take care of this a lot sooner." the quotes are from Jake at Northstar Performance

Well that is the latest.

Did you get the stud?

Not so far Mike, but this came via regular mail, and I still have parts coming thru Purolator.com shipping. The tracking number showed them in N.D. Wed. evening.

I sent him an email last night asking for when the parts would ship, I got a reply this morning, that the parts would ship today. So I filled out the form to order them - he telephoned me to get the credit card authorization within about an hour, and the money's been debited against my credit line. So, he seems to be doing new orders, at least, on a timely basis.

He said he switched from UPS to Purolator shipping for 'cost effectiveness'. Perhaps it was because of money owing to UPS, which could explain alot of what Airmike has gone through . . .

mmmmm nope. It didn't come in the email last night.

He's not answering his phone either.

I sent an email - let's see what the response is.

At least you used a credit card so you can always cancel if it doesn't show up.

UPS showed up just now and had the rest of my stuff. Oil level sensor, intermediate sprocket, tensioners guides chains, stud and nut!!

I have to say that Jake did send the stuff he said he would. It has caused me a major problem, with doing the repair myself vs hiring it done, but at least I have to say he was not trying to steal my money. I believe he is an upstanding guy, if a poor business man. I hope coolness gets all his stuff in a timely manner and Jake manages to do a thriving business, because that would mean, no more situations like mine. I will hopefully be writing about my car running one of these days. Keep after him if necessary coolness, hopefully you wont need to.

I am glad to hear that Mike, it sounds like Jake made up for this by bending over backwards for you in terms of give aways. Thats great, as we said, he is a nice guy, I hope he gets it together

Mike,

Glad to hear you received all of your parts. Let me know if you need any assistance when reassembling the engine. Setting the valve timing can be a little tricky of you've never done it before. The tensioners have levers to release them and then you insert pins to keep them retracted. The slack on the chain will always go toward the tensioner.

if a poor business man.

I did too much business with companies that drove me into the ground. Not by choice, by necessity. I will leave the finer details out- but if I would have had that CNC Turning Center and thread rolling equipment in the shop when Northstar Performance was started, things would have gone much differently. I've lived for this business, I have put my last dollars into keeping it floating. I want so much better for my customers and finally I am almost able to run it the way I would like to. I am extremely proud of the quality of the stud kits that we are shipping now (and have been for about 9 months or so), something I could never really say when I had parts produced for me under contract. I am in the driver's seat now. Stud kit wait times are almost down to zero. We found a new steel supplier who can supply us with more than we will ever need - steel produced in the USA. I learned how to program, run, diagnose and repair a CNC machine in a very short time. I found new help in the shop (good help) and have my old employee John back.

I apologize AirMike and I am thankful to you.

I didn't throw the towel in when things got rough. (nobody knows how rough). I'm here to stay.

I have had better support from Bruce and this forum than the Cadillac Forums down the street. That forum and half of its members kicked me when I was down. Guess where my future advertising dollars are going once I'm prepared to put that back in the company budget? People don't forget - I remember who has stood by me.

Coolness, deal with me direct please, info@northstarperformance.com

As for the switch to Purolator, UPS has LOST stud kits like nobody knows. They owe ME money. A lot of it. Those ******** will never pay me what they owe me for lost kits. Everything seems to get lost in Eagan Minnesota at their depot. I could get verification on this from about 10-15 of my customers. I don't owe UPS a dime. It's the other way around.

Thank you Bruce.

Edit: We may be moving into a new office and new shop at our one location. This has yet to be confirmed but if we do, it will update on our site.
