I have given up waxing cars as I am dealing with a spine that is fused on eight levels and, to be honest, it hurts. However, I want to put something on the paint and am told to use the following: Zaino/Mothers/Maguires and I am clueless as to how good any of them are or aren't. What's worse is the each makes several different detail sprays - darn confusing to me.

When you go to the web sites each is the best ever made etc. What to believe? In speaking to some of the folks who make the stuff, they are just plain rude (no thanks).

What is a decent detail spray for silver and no, I don't expect it to last like a good carnuba either - suggestions?

Lastly, are the spray waxes any good or is this just another form of detail spray?

Thank you for the input.

I have heard lots of people say how great Zaino products are.

I have never used it, so I can't speak from experience.

I have used a lot of Maguires products, including the regular wax and the Quik Wax.

The Quik Wax is pretty good stuff.

Of course it does not last as long as a good heavy carnauba wax does, but that isn't what it was designed for.

This is what I use in between regular waxing...

I love Maguires clay bar and detailing spray, its a little tedious but if you keep the surface really wet, the finish is awesome

I received a reply from a racing friend who runs a black XKE with a 540" Chevy in it and it is immaculate. This unit looks like it is a foot deep and is always flawless. His detailer told him that he used to use Zaino and now uses Duragloss and he believes them to be exactly the same product through testing on customer's cars! Said the Duragloss comes in two forms, the spray and a very easy on/off wax and he uses both when detailing cars.

I ordered some Duragloss and will let you know how it works as I will probably put it on the week of the 23rd as I have to go another 1500 to both Indianapolis and then 'filthydelphis' for a conference.

I prefer my energy for things like running valves and not polishing cars be they street or race cars.

'Dog,

I will be very interested in your results.

I do not like polishing cars either...

Don't tell anyone, but I took mine and had it waxed several months ago...I didn't feel like doing it myself.

But it is time to do it again.

Wax on, Wax off

Looking forward to your Duragloss results!

  • 2 weeks later...

I have some Zaino spray and just got the Duragloss. They look and smell the same and seem to do the same thing on the car - who knows, I sure don't but if it last a while and is a lot less costly; well, that is a no brainer to me. I will have to give them about a month of weather/washings to see if they seem to be the same thing.

To be honest, I doubt it but who knows?

I applied the Zaino and the Duragloss each to a different fender. It has been raining here a lot - too much to be honest and the car has been washed two times.

The Duragloss looks and smells like the Zaino if that means anything and they both seem to be holding up the same. I have intentionally left the car in the pollen/rain to see what difference there was in water beading etc. I see not difference at all.

I will wait a few more weeks and if I see any difference I will post it.
