ruffy
My '72 ElDorado still has the original electronic points ignition circuitry. I'm looking for someone in Brooklyn who can dependably install my Pertronix Electronic Ingnition kit. Experience is important beause I'd hate to have a guy put it in and the timing wasn't right or, later find a short because wires rubbed clean. BodybyFisher
It is not likely that this is a difficult job for an old time mechanic like myself, its really not a big deal. I owned a 74 Eldorado. I am surprised that you don't have the HEI ignition, but I guess that stared later, I believe I had it in my 74. I live on Long Island, if you have difficulty finding someone send me a PM maybe I can do it for you Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm

BodybyFisher
Thanks Scott, I am sure my 74 had it however, never had to replace points, did lots of engine work on it also. Maybe mine was a 74 1/2 who knows. BodybyFisher
Yep, 1974 has two 500 cu in engines one with points and one with the HEI Electronic ignition. Mine had the HEI ignition. My 1978 Chiltons Manual had the detail. I did a valve job and cleaned and soaked the lifters on that car, the heads weighted a ton. KHE
HEI was an option in '74 and was stanard from '75 on. That was also true for the 472 engine in 1974. 1974 was the last year for the 472 as all Cadillacs got the 500 engine in '75 and '76.
