white cloud
I have a 1993 cadillac deville that Im trying to keep running. I took it to firestone for regular break job and they end up putting from breakshoes, drums, cylinders and the kit with springs and everything. All I needed was break shoes and maybe some drums at the most. My question is after they did all this work my abs light is coming on.It was not coming on at all. Since they touch it it stays on .Im getting a code 45 indicating a left front soleniod or inlet valve circuit fault. Can someone tell me what causes this. BodybyFisher
Each hub bearing has a sensor in it to sense the tires revolutions for abs and TC (a speed sensor). There is a wire connected to each hub bearing. Get under the car and check that the wire has not been disconnected or damaged. It is inboard behind the backing plate and connected to the hub bearing. PS, that is the reason, I do my own work, if it needs pads, the rotors resurfaced or replaced and the sliders cleaned, that is all that it gets Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
BodybyFisher
You mentioned code 45, its the LEFT REAR. Where did they do the work only the front or a 4 wheel brake job? white cloud
They did the back only far as know.Told me to take it to another mechanic because he did not have the capabilty to find out what was wrong.I really think they screwed something up.I took it to the my main mechanic he told me it is a front valve solenoid or inlet valve circut fault. Would over filling the master cylinder creat this problem.

BodybyFisher
NO, as I said, check the wire at the LEFT REAR wheel, its either disconnected or damaged, if it was OK before the job, they disturbed it doing the work, its easy to fix if it is not damaged, just plug it back in, it was probably left disconnected or dislodged...easy fix I believe your main mechanic diagnosed the code wrong, see my signiture below and look at CHASSIS codes for the OBD1 system, and look up 45 Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm

Wht92STS
I have a 99 Eldo ETC I just purchased with 65,000 miles on it. It had been sitting for 2 1/2 years. Upon taking possession of the car, I noticed when I stop at a light, then take off, a grinding sound comes from the front wheels and the traction control and service stability system, and ABS light came on the info screen soon after. I doesn't happen all the time. I got under the car to check the sensor that goes into the hub assembly to see if it was loose or frayed on both sides, and they checked out. I then checked the codes and a C1225 LF and C1226 RF code appeared. My next question is can the hub assembly go bad from just sitting ?? How expensive and hard is this to replace and what brand bearings are the best to use? I've heard some brands are junk.
Ranger
My next question is can the hub assembly go bad from just sitting ?? No. They go bad from wear. How expensive and hard is this to replace and what brand bearings are the best to use? Prices seem to vary. I think I paid about $200 from Napa, long time ago. I'd stay away from Autozone don't last parts. You can probably find a quality Delco part or Timkin from Rockauto or Amazon for a decent price. Not too hard of a job. I think it took me less than an hour, but Murphy (Murphy's Law) was not around that day.
Wht92STS
Thx for the reply Ranger. O'Reillys sells Timkin hub bearings, would it be safe to purchase those from them? I'd be leery of anything else. I usually deal with Advance, but I'm not familiar with Driveworks, they also have Moog which I hear are good products also. Ranger
I think Timkin makes a quality bearing. I would not be worried about using one of theirs.

Ranger
The car stops but not like it use to I have to stand on top of them to stop. That sounds like a power assist issue.

Ranger
EBCM = Electronic Brake Control Module. It's plug n play. No flashing required.
