Blog Post: Adding boost pressure to the LC3 4.4L DOHC VVT V8

3 posts in this topic

The Cadillac STS-V (2006-2009) uses the 4.4L supercharged Northstar engine, making 469 hp and 439 ft-lb of torque.  Can it make more? Cadillac used a modified variant of the Magnuson MP122, or Eaton M122 supercharger, with a integrated intercooler using Laminova cores.  The powerplant was designed specifically to be supercharged.  The stock LC3 V8 uses [...]

Nothing like reviving an old thread. Is there a link that has all the posts for Bruce's 08 sts-v? Would like to find out the end results of the mods.

For dyno tests, the 2nd visit to Truesport is here: http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/2008-cadillac-sts-v-spectre-cai-corsa-394-3-whp-380-4-lb-ft/ with final 394 whp hot.

For articles, any STS-V related post to the blog, 126 in all are here: http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/category/cadillac-models/sts-v-cadillac-models/

In general, corsa exhaust added 20 whp, spectre intake with corsa added another 20 whp.  Larger intercooler coolant pump, larger intercooler coolant reservoir, additional intercooler radiator were additive for avoiding heat loss but didn't make more max power.  On an average cool day the STS-V measured to be making ~520 crank hp.

Mods I didn't do:

  • smaller pulleys.  In my opinion the supercharger is already running at the top of its efficiency curve, but others have found that smaller pulleys help in some circumstances.  I think they help more in cold weather which offsets the hotter air issue.
  • route a/c refrigerant to a liquid to liquid heat exchanger to reduce the temp of intercooler coolant.

also this subforum http://caddyinfo.ipbhost.com/index.php?/forum/89-bruces-2008-cadillac-sts-v/ is only about my previous STS-V
