Help ! disable fuel cut off possibilities 4.6 L northstar

Recommended Posts

Was curious was anyone here capable of pointing me towards the right direction with a reasonable solution ? I've heard you'll have to recalibrate the PCM with a DTS or STS that has a 130MPH-150MPH limiter. In order to increase the governed fuel cut off speed. Which prevents me from having fun@ the track racing against friends on Sundays. The fuel cut off can become annoying competing in quater mile runs.

Thanks anyone,

Cadillac enthusiast :bluesbrothers:

Cadillac_Driving74,

DO you mean that you can hit more than 112 mph in the 1/4 mile??

Yes, if you put drag racing slicks on the front. I've also installed a customized K & N cold air intake the northstar breathes better. Besides my fuel cut off occurs before 112mph. It's actually 109 mph on mines. Why I want it removed to get peak performace from the northstar.

Did the K&N cold air intake require removal of the original piping?, and now you have a cone under the hood?

Keep in mind the the original intake took air from outside the hood, directed it over your PCM to COOL IT, unless you are pulling air from OUTSIDE the hood the you have accomplished very little besides making the intake louder. You perceive that your engine is more powerful beause of the WAAAAAAAA noise you hear but if you put it on a dyno you would have no gains and possibly lost some performance. due to a loss of RAM AIR affect.

We used to have a Northstar Powertrain Engineer here and he was clear in that "all of the low hanging fruit was picked" and adding a so called Cold and Intake would do little or nothing to improve performance. What you are hearing is a louder intake. He informed us that the stock INTAKE flowed more than adequate throughout the Northstar's performance range.

What you CAN do to improve performance is to change the exhaust system to make it more free flowing, the big bottle neck is the front bank to rear bank crossover.

Two more facts:

1. The factory air filter is not restrictive. It will pass all the air that the Northstar can ingest at 6500 RPM with WOT.

2. The K&N will pass more dirt.
