According to the 94 manual, the torque specs are 18 ft lbs. The specs where the same for both the crossover to block and crossover to head bolts.

I thought that seemed light, but then considering the seals are in there, going tighter would crush them.

So how is it going?, have not heard, still waiting for the seals?

Don't forget to clean the mating surfaces good, dont use scotch gard for that purpose or around the engine, this is especially true for things that contact the oil, pieces can damage the internal engine parts, its very abrasive

When you put the green hoses back on, point the screw on the hose clamps so that you will be able to get at them if you have to in the future. Take a close look at the by pass hose that connects to the heater pipes up near the stat housing and replace it while you are there, it has a slight bend in it you will notice, not sure if you need an OEM hose in that location

No you don't need to use anything to hold them, you will notice that they are tight around the bolts, put the bolts in to hold the seals in place and then put the crossover in place, you only need to put the bolts in far enough to hold the seal in place.

You should be able to drop the two top seals in place last after the crossover is in place and shove the bolts through then

Wire brush the bolts so they are easy to finger tighten them so you don't need to use a wrench with the limited space

If I recall, one of the bolts goes into the water jacket, it may need sealer, Ill look at my manual

hey bodybyfisher did u get a chance to see what bolt needs sealed,,thanks steve

I didn't find anything in the 94 manual. If you look, you will notice that one or more bolt cavities go right into the water passage/jacket, I would use some type of sealer on those bolts.

Now the problem with putting something on the thread of bolts that go into the water passage is that torquing those bolts will be affected

So I am now a bit confused as to whether on not you can seal those threads safely, even though I feel sealer should be used on those threads

Hopefully someone will give their opinion on this. Maybe the key is to use new bolts that have a thread sealer on them?, or maybe using thread sealer is not consequential

Ill look in the 96 manual later

I looked in both the 94 and 96 manuals and there is no mention of using sealer on those bolts that go into the water passage.

Did you find the bolt holes that go into the water passages?

The Hanes manual would not have been ANY help whatsoever

I would just reassemble it without putting anything on the bolts, I do not think that will be a problem, if you have a local dealer a call to the service manager might help, but I do not think that its mandatory for you to put sealer on those bolts, it is not going to leak

OK, I stopped by my local dealer for you.

I asked a mechanic familiar with the Northstar and he said, yes, HE puts pipe thread sealer on the threads of those bolts that go into the water jacket, just as I thought, he said it will not affect the torque (hard to believe, but just be careful)

I would use some sort of thread sealer on those and be careful torquing them, you wont need much sealer

Good, no you don't want to scratch up that surface, odd that it could be stuck so good

Now you know what I mean when I said, this was a hard job, good job, replacing the fuel line will not be easy and its possible that its not available, so try to be careful with it

All I can say is to make sure that the tool is properly seated. If you have another pump, fit the tool to that pump and make sure it sits the same way on the installed pump.

We have heard this before where members had problems getting them out, I don't understand why, there is not much holding them other than tabs, I have to believe that the tool is installed wrong, go back to square one.
