97 Deville, I am told its a water pump issue

Recommended Posts

I personally would be a little weary about a 60$ radiator on e-bay. You don't always know for sure what you are getting until you get it. Does it specify a part number? Or whether it is a new/used radiator? If the part number checks out to be the correct one for your car (you can get the # from rockauto) and it is a NEW radiator, then I would say go for it. Of course, use Paypal or something like that rather than giving the guy your payment info, just to be safe. Just my 2 cents.

I am working on getting the old radiator out now and wondered what the secret to this is...I have loosened every bolt or threaded hex headed unit I can and it still seems to want to hang up on the lower end on the drivers side. I have disconnected the radiator hose on the bottom over there so I cant see what else is holding it in.

Are there nuts holding it in place on the bottom rail of the radiator?

turns out that it really makes a difference if you unbolt the transmission cooler line, in getting the radiator out. lol

This wont surprise you. I put the new radiator in, let it idle for 30 min and no leaks...so I sold it this morning as fast as I could. lol

I couldnt wait to get that car out of my driveway! Sorry, nice car...but that cooling system is a friggen nightmare waiting to happen!

Actually this did surprise me, you had a 14 year old car, you probably fixed the overheating problem, afterall, a serious leak like that causes coolant loss and pressure loss leading to overheating. You couldnt even find the leak when you started posting here and were told it was water pump when it was the radiator.

Well glad you got it back in ok, good luck to you. What you will find out is that unless you buy a new car with a warranty, used cars will need constant work, I am working on a 2001 Infiniti I30 right now that NO one not even the dealer could fix for 6 months, I fixed it. The dealer wanted $2000 to replace the pre-cats, I did it for $485. An old car needs proper maintenance to be dependable, the NS cooling system can leak at numerous places but a 14 year old cooling system on ANY car needs refurbishment, and that was what you were beginning to do. Consider the education you got here and how much you know about that car now that you didnt know before.

You will find that OTHER forums are NOT going to be as helpful as this one, I am spending time on the Infiniti forum and its TOTALLY useless..

Good Luck

Without question, you have all been THE most helpful forum I have found on the Net and I have been on many of them for any topic you can think of, and I have nothing but absolute high praise for all of you here. I respect your patience and knowledge and appreciate all you did for me. Sincerely.

It wasn't that I am adverse to working on cars, I have four int he driveway and winter is coming fast here. It was the one that I knew was good enough to sell and wouldnt be "dumping it on someone" so I picked it. I agree, all cars sooner or later require maintainence, and some more than others.

All in all, THANK YOU ALL. :)
