58cadillac Posted July 17, 2010 Report Share Posted July 17, 2010 I just finished restoring a 1958 Cadillac Coupe DeVille, rebuilt the engine and transmission. There is an oil leak between the engine and the transmission. I can't find the cause - replaced the oil pan gasket and the rear main seal - the leak remains. I've heard that this block may have a rubber plug on the rear of the block that may be my problem. Anyone had this problem and found the solution? There is a rubber gasket/seal that lays on top of the block (under the intake)... that has two little tabs on it...one on each side. If that gasket slips a little as you install the intake...(and it is "VERY EASY" to make it slip) ... it will leak oil there. Just a thought....
