1958 Cadillac Oil Leak

Recommended Posts

I just finished restoring a 1958 Cadillac Coupe DeVille, rebuilt the engine and transmission. There is an oil leak between the engine and the transmission. I can't find the cause - replaced the oil pan gasket and the rear main seal - the leak remains. I've heard that this block may have a rubber plug on the rear of the block that may be my problem. Anyone had this problem and found the solution?

You may want to check the rear of the intake manifold.

There is a rubber gasket/seal that lays on top of the block (under the intake)... that has two little tabs on it...one on each side.

If that gasket slips a little as you install the intake...(and it is "VERY EASY" to make it slip) ... it will leak oil there.

Just a thought....

Thanks, I've checked that, we are as dry as a bone up top.
