It can transform the brand, or bury it, depending upon whom you talk to. But it's certainly going to shake things up in the coming months. Based on the Opel Insignia, this midsize sports sedan will arrive this spring with a nice 2.4-liter direct-injection four-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. But the car is not what brought me to Milford, outside of General Motors Co.'s testing grounds. I was there to test the exact engine that will come in the Regal this summer: the 2-liter direct-injection turbocharged four-cylinder. This is the heart of the real Regal; the one disguised as an Opel Insignia has won acclaim across the Old World. All of that sounds great... but it looks like all of the car companies are abandoning people like me... that want a big car that rides nice. Unless you can afford $75,000 bucks for a big Mercedes or a BMW 750, (and I really can't afford that)... people that want a big easy riding car are just flat out of luck. Everybody is building cars that are "SPORT SEDANS"... which is fine for most younger people, I guess. I know that Bruce really loves his CTS... I enjoy driving a CTS when I take my DTS in for service. They are fun to drive, here around town. They run well...handle good and are more nimble than my big ol' DTS...but... I honestly feel that if I drove one on one of my usual trips, where I drive 10 or 12 hours a day...day after day...I would get tired of the overly firm ride in a day or two. I might be pleasantly surprised and really like it... I sure hope so... because it looks like that is going to be the only choice in another couple of years. Reckon I will be getting another DTS in a year or so... a Platinum Performance 2010... if I can find one. I have thought of getting a CTS "V"... but that really isn't practical for me... not the way I use a car. If I could afford it... I would have a DTS for a regular driver and for road trips and a "V" for when I go out driving around town by myself.
