Cadillac CTS and SRX reliability - let's get better stats

Recommended Posts

I wanted more up-to-date car reliability information that included actual repair rates. So in late 2005 I started getting people together to make this possible. TrueDelta now updates actual repair frequencies, not just dots, four times a year, to track vehicles closely as they age.

So far over 300 CTS and SRX owners have signed up to help provide better reliability information on these models. A good start, but more are needed to fully cover all models and years. So I'm grateful that this forum has provided permission to post about the survey.

Participants simply report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter.

To encourage participation, participants receive full access to all results, not just those for the CTS and SRX, for free.

We've updated the results for the Cadillac CTS to include owner experiences through December 31, 2009. In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2009: 39

2008: 59

2005: 81

2004: 105

2003: 78

All are about average. Small sample sizes for the 2003, 2004, and 2009.

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds," to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop.

In the case of the 2008 CTS, the percentage with no repairs is about 59, and the percentage of lemons is ab out 5.

Cadillac CTS Lemon-odds and Nada-odds

We'll have further updates in May and August. With more participants, we could provide more precise information and cover all model years.

Thanks for posting.

TrueDelta is a free online survey service that collects actual reports from Cadillac and other vehicle owners and offers analysis. This is one way for us as a community to understand current reliability better. It takes a moment or two a month to log in and report, and the collective information is interesting.

Starting this month we have a new question to measure, as objectively as possible, the severity of a problem. Many people have been asking for reliability stats that weight problems by how severe they are, and once we have enough responses with the revised survey we'll start providing this.

Also this month: updated reliability stats.

As always, the more owners participate, the better the information we can provide to everyone.

We've updated the results for the Cadillac CTS to include owner experiences through September 30, 2010. Other sources of car reliability information won't cover the months since April until the summer or even fall of next year.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2009: 60

2008: 65

2006: 120, very small sample size

2005: 92

2004: 82

2003: 110

The 2006 is worse than average, but the sample size is far too small to be precise. All of the others are about average.

Decent sample sizes only for the 2005 and 2008, though the 2009 fell only a single response short of the minimum for a full result. Some other years were just a few responses short.

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds," to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop.

In the case of the 2008 CTS, the percentage with no repairs is about 55, and the percentage of lemons is about 3.
