'01 or '02 Seville STS / SLS

I'm looking at buy an '01 or '02 Seville within the next two to three weeks. I know the differences in the SLS and STS, but is there a better year car to buy. I really want a car that is going to have very few problems.

I am also planning on having it certified pre-owned by a Cadillac dealer. Good idea or not. By having it certified, gives me a 6 year 100,000 warranty.

Any advice welcome.

I purchased a 01 sls about 9 months ago. Seems to be a great car ,with only 16000 miles. This is my third caddy, I owned a 95 eldo and a 97 sls before this one. The main problem with the other two was oil leaks. This01 has no leaks and seems to be a much better car. Good luck,I hope you find a good one like I did. I purchased it from a dealer and got the extended warranty also

I just read a bunch of reviews about the Seville STS and SLS. I'm now concerned about the engine burning a lot of oil and the tire vibration problem. How can I check and prevent these items from happening?

Maybe I should go with the Lexus?

It's normal for the engine to burn oil. Mine burns about a liter between every oil change. Mine has a leak also, but it's so minor that it doesn't even drip on my garage floor. The only way that I know it's there is when I change the oil.

dragon 174,

you need to research these Cadillacs to come to the realization that Cadillac is Still the Standard of the World! Every 275, 300hp engine burns oil...Its part of the requirement for all that horse...These engines will still turnout 300hp after hundreds of thousands of miles!...The cylinder wear is negligible due to the coarse pattern machined into the cylinders...allowing all that power without limiting it to the first 50,000 miles...Burning the oil left in the coarse cylinder pattern...These NorthStars are pretty much bullet proof! I plan to never buy anything else...Lexus is crap...my .02 ;)

In addition to my previous post, i would buy the newer model ... with all things being equal. Also, with regards to the factory warrenty, check the inservice date because in some cases such as a late 01 or early 02 there may not be very much difference.

If the Navigation system is important to you I believe the 02 has the DVD system where as the 01 is a CD based sysytem.

Everything else ... except color choice should be pretty much the same between the 01 & 02 model year.

Jim

The new suspension was added mid-year - January, I think, so not all STS's of that year had the new suspension.
