Some years have a hatch in the floor of the trunk that you can open to get at the fuel pump, that is what the Haynes manual is referring to

I think you meant CAN'T GET TO THE PUMP...not CAN GET TO THE PUMP...it is not clear what you meant..

But...

If you CAN get to the fuel pump from the trunk...NO.

If you CAN NOT get to the fuel pump from the trunk...YES.

Yes, the '97 will not have the access hatch. A good idea that came too late for you I am afraid. You will have to drop the tank to replace the pump. Have you checked the fuel pump relay under the hood. It is easy enough to check and it may save you a pump.

So..... does the Haynes manual combine the 1997 deville with the 2000 deville? I was going to buy one of those manuals but am now unsure if it combines both cars, it could cause more problems than what you already have.

Dont waste your money on Haynes, buy the factory service manual for your year on EBAY or www.helminc.com

The factory service manuals that I found on ebay were all dvd based, are these the ones your referring to, or should I buy a book version????

NO, not the DVD version, occasionally you can find the BOOK FSMs, go to www.helminc.com to buy new manuals, if you cant find them on ebay or amazon, you must be patient to get them on ebay.
