Last night I was replying on a disgruntled Cadillac owner's thread and I thought to myself, I wonder what the spread is between Republicans and Democrats on Caddyinfo. I think this will be an interesting topic to explore.

Lets not criticise each other, just answer the poll and we can draw our conclusions from that. I don't want to muddy the waters by what I think the outcome will be, but I have my ideas.

I did not put any third party choices as I feel that responding with those parties is a cop out, sorry that is my opinion. Where do you fit more republican or democrat?

Thanks

Depending upon the outcome, I am thinking of a second poll analyzing party vs age

I agree on the third party issue. A lot of people who thought that they liked Ross Perot voted for him and elected Clinton by default.

Like it or not, we are stuck with a two party system here. It has it's faults and drawbacks, but I would not trade it for any other form of government, past or present!

Our biggest problem is that when the Founding Fathers established free speech and freedom of the press, they didn't imagine that there would come a time when groups with an agenda would control the bulk of the news media in this country.

The left leaning press learned with Nixon and Watergate that they could control the course of events by selective and downright biased reporting.

(I'm not defending Nixon here, but the Watergate debacle is what really opened the news media's eyes to the power that the press controls.) This last election cycle is a blatant and sad proof of that fact.

The news media is failing in their duty to the country by not being objective in their reporting. If this situation continues, one day soon, all of us will live to regret it.

All the people who have left leaning tendencies are ignoring this alarming situation because it hasn't been their ox that is being gored.

What is the answer to this serious situation? It surely isn't the so-called "Fairness Doctrine" that is being considered again for talk radio. If the left want "fairness", then it should be applied equally in all media, not just talk radio.

Messing with the First Amendment will be the start of us going down a slippery slope. Unfortunately, it has been the media it's self who have been greasing that slope.

The Lame Stream Media have long been in the tank for left wing causes. They've been called on it for years and have denied it. Finally, they've given up the charade and revealed themselves. Now I don't view this as the end of a nation, but rather a call to be very observant of your news sources. Caution is advised.

Guess you're wondering if I voted Democrat or Republican, huh? Well, you may keep wondering, as neither of those scalawag parties deserve my allegiance. This is very different from saying, "there isn't a dimes worth of difference between them."

Mike: rather than the black/white poll you proposed, I'd suggest a more representative poll that offered perhaps five choices: left, left-of-center, center, right-of-center, and right. I think it would be easier for folk to respond more accurately. Of course, it's your poll.

Warren

Warren, I know the parties as they stand right now are screwed up, but I am talking philosophy here, forget the screwed up parties as they stand. <edit>, I said I would not give my personal opinion here..

Waren,

I agree with you 100% on how long the media has been in the leftist tank.

I can remember watching Cronkite and Huntley & Brinkley as a kid and a young man, thinking that they always told the unvarnished truth!

When I learned how one sided that they were, it was almost like finding out that Santa Claus was make believe.

What really opened my eyes was the reporting on the Vietnam war and the home front situation here in the States. They were reporting on things that I KNEW were one sided at best and completely wrong at the worst.

It has gotten to the point where any semblance of patriotism has completely disappeared. Our press treats this country in it's "reporting" the way I would expect them to report on an enemy state.

Ever since then, I have taken their "news" reporting with a healthy skepticism.

As far as Democrats & Republicans, I also agree with you that neither party deserve support.

However, between the two of them, the Republicans still have a slight glimmer of loving this country and it's rights and freedoms. They do not seem to be out to destroy the Constitution and the Bill of Rights as much as the present day Democratic party is.

What I have said before in another forum is that the Democratic party needs to be defeated first. Then we can work on either reforming the Republican party or replacing it with something that respects the Constitution!

The bottom line here is the existence of the Constitution is what enabled this country to become what it is.

Those who think that the Constitution is a "living" document that can be changed or reinterpreted at will, will ultimately destroy this country and all that it has stood for.

In my way of thinking, the Republican Party is the lesser of two evils. It deserves our support until it can be replaced by a true Constitutionalist, conservative party.

I'm hoping that the nation can survive for the next two years. Possibly then we can get control of Congress back.

If we are so lucky, The Republicans need to grow a spine and stand up for Conservatism.

It may well be too late for that. Read "Here Comes Socialism" by Dick Morris.

GUYS OMG! Talk about HIJACKING a thread!! Why don't I MOVE the OBJECTIVE POLL and leave you guys to your discussion! I don't want to disuade anyone from voting here. As it is we have 9000 members of which there are 5 republicans and NO one else has an opinion. Warren, I don't even think you voted here and you got your nose in here! Back off bud!

Oh well another WELL INTENTIONED idea that hit the windshield at 90

Maybe this line in my first post was not strong enough?

Lets not criticise each other, just answer the poll and we can draw our conclusions from that.

Oh well

I am going to delete this poll its been a failed experiment. The Hall of Fame has been a failed experiment also as no one has commented. But I figure its more for the recipient in recognition of their accomplishments.

You right wingers can't control yourselves, (who can blame ya)

It will definitely be too late if we all sit on our hands and do nothing.

I've been told that lawmakers pay attention to letters and Emails from their constituency. So far, I have seen no results, but I am cursed with Senators Durbin and Burris/Obama here in the not so great state of Illinois.

I have heard of instances when the Illinois State Police have visited people whose views are not shared by our (elected) representatives.

One possibly bright spot... When Blago is convicted in Federal Court, hopefully he will have enough information to drag Mayor Daley and his ilk down with him.

I had no idea there was any real differences between democrats and republicans. I was always under the impression that they're ALL whores for big business.

If you really want to make people safe drivers again then simply remove all the safety features from cars. No more seat belts, ABS brakes, traction control, air bags or stability control. No more anything. You'll see how quickly people will slow down and once again learn to drive like "normal" humans.
