Guest Cadi03CTS
Not sure where else to go for help, dealership will just rob me blind over this problem. Over the past few months my car has been starting with a weird very low-frequency clicking sound right before the engine would start. It sounded like it was coming from the inside the car, not so much the engine part. About the same time my car just stalled on me - no forewarning like the erratic rpm or what not, it just died - and wouldn't start back up. I had the battery disconnected then reconnected after the car stood for about 20 minutes or so, then it would start back up. FF to now, over the past three days the car has stalled every chance it got. On the Freeway at 65MPH while accelerating the engine would shut off as if you took the key out. While idling on Park the engine would stop While on park with the pedal depressed at a steady 2500RPM it would stall out While driving at normal speeds about 35MP While idling the RMP would fluctuate slightly 30% of the time +/-2000 - then it would just shut off, no chocking just a STOP After that it won't start. Wait 20 minutes or so to cool it down then it would start back up. I don't know what to do. I had the car serviced at 60,000 Oil changes are after every 3,000 miles Fuel only 93 grade Thinking it might be the fuel pump - but not sure at all.... Does anyone have any ideas? Cadillac Jim
To start, I suggest that you read the OBD II codes. Here's how, from http://www.caddyinfo.com/readingcodes.html For the 2003 CTS Non-Nav, turn on the ignition without starting the car. Push in the F1 and the F6 function keys on the radio at the same time. For the 2003 CTS with Nav, Press the BAND button and the bottom NAV button to the left of the display, then release. Does not work on 2004+ models, which require a code reader. The DTCs (device trouble codes) will scroll across the data display. Write them down and post them here. Then, if it does it again, read the codes again before you shut off the key. The codes will be of the form PCM P0171 H What's important are the parts of the form P0171, a letter (B, C, P or U) followed by four numbers, and the letter C or H (for Current or History). For nearly all problems, the DTCs will point you in the right direction. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. winterset
Based on your symptoms, it sounds like: There is no pattern to the problem - making it random. For starters, with all the codes you are getting - everything including the Radio, & Amp, & Drive Train, I am leaning towards an electrical issue (ie. the battery, and the battery terminals) In addition, I would think the clicking can be something related to the climate control. - If it is indeed an electrical issue, then the clicking can be addressed after the problem is fixed. Then I read that your battery went dead, and I wonder why, and it enforces my belief that it's battery/terminal related.
