99 Deville radio stays on!

My 99 Deville radio does not shut off after I turn off the car and open the door. It stays on until I turn it off at the radio knob. Retained Accessory relay maybe? Why just the radio?

PS: Can anyone tell me where I can go to "Use The Search Function School"?

Do the windows operate also after you open the door? The retained power circuit allows the radio and windows to work. If it's just the radio, that is odd.

I don't have the 99 manual, but yes this sounds like its related to the retained power circuit. I think, that it might be as simple as your door switch. I will check to see if the retained power turns off, if the passenger side door opens in a bit, and let you know, so that you can test the drivers door switch, not sure if the passenger door shuts off retained power.

The FSM says the PZM powers the Accessort Time Delay relay and the Controlled Power Relay. Any of the doors will stop the timer in the PZM. Mine keeps going no matter what doors I open. Looks like the PZM is the problem. Further research to see how to test the PZM!

PZM or a relay, if you listen you will find that you get a click when the radio turns off. So you are telling me that you have power 100% of the time now? It never turns off? Watch your battery.

Yea, both the radio and windows have power all of the time. I use the car every day and so far the battery hasn't gone dead overnight. So I think that it couldn't be the relays. They get their juice from the PZM and the PZM is supposed to shut off the juice after 10 minutes and it isn't.

PZM = Platform Zone Manager

Yes, when the passenger door opens, it cuts off power too. I know this because my wife always opens up her door as I am rolling up all the windows, (Not kidding - ALWAYS). I then have to put the key in the ignition (wearing down my lock cylinder even more ), and roll up the window. I would try opening up the passenger door & the power should shut down. - remember mine is a '96. could have changed their shut-off criteria if there are many passengers like my wife!!

I would think this will raise a PZM code

I am having a tough time getting the BCM. Ordered it from rockauto for $120 but they couldn't get it. Brasington wants almost $400. Found one from a bone yard for $80 and they want the number off of the old one which is still in the car. I sent them the OE part number and see if that is good enough. And yes the battery did go dead so I am putting it on a trickle charger at night.

I know this doesnt help with the problem at hand... but Ive got an 01 STS and the pass door kills power as well... I know bc my gf has the same issue as winterset's wife... she is standing next to me beating on me as I type this. :lol:

I seem to remember that mine used to work like that. I could be mistaken, but NOW, when the passengers door is opened... it cuts off everything BUT the radio.

Like you, I am usually putting up the window or closing the sunroof when she opens the door. Have to put the key back in and finish what I was doing.

The radio and EVERYTHING stops when the drivers door is opened.

I just put in a new Body Control Module (PZM) and it didn't change a thing. If the BCM is supposed to shut off power after 10 minutes or when a door is open, how could I still be getting juice to the radio and windows? Does the BCM have to get a signal form somewhere? Why wouldn't it kill power after 10 minutes if nothing else?

My backup lights were not working because of a corroded fuse at the fuse box under the hood. I fixed that and no change. Then i was doing the door open thing and noticed that the interior light on the drivers side door panel was not working but all of the other doors were. I changed the bulb and it is still not working. This leads me to think that Scottyy was right that it was maybe the door jamb switch not working. Another symptom I have is that the alarm does not deactivate when I use the key to unlock the drivers door. It disarms when I use the remote or unlock the passenger door with the key. So, what do I need to replace?

Interesting, I thought the timing was done by the PZM? Do you see the relay in the schematic/

From what I read the PZM does do the counting and sends the signal to the relay.

Hmm, that's interesting. The PZM timer terminates the ground to the relay and the contacts open? The key comes on, the relay contacts close?, there by providing KEY ON power to the scheduled "retained power" circuit, pretty cool. So now in your case, the PZM which we know is good because you changed it, when the key is turned off, starts a timer and at the end of 10? minutes, commands the ground open. A shorted ground wire would keep the circuit engaged or a mechanical problem in the relay (fused contacts, binding, etc). You might wait ten minutes or better yet 11 minutes and then do the tap test on the relay give it a good shot, maybe you will induce the lights to go off and you will found the problem.

I put in a new Accessory Time Delay relay (RAP) and no change (you have to pull up the carpet on the drivers side and it is in a wire conduit). I unpluged the relay and still no change. I unpluged the Controlled Power Relay that is located in the trunk and stiil no change. Where is the door jamb switch located. I can't find any reference to it in my FSM.
