dgaouette
i have a 2003 SLS that the outside Ambient air temp is off, about 11 deg. low. I have looked for a cal table to set an offset but can not find it. I have also replaced the sensor and get no change. has anyone run into this before? BodybyFisher
Hmm this is interesting, I was going to direct you to the outside temp sensor but you replaced it. This may sound obvious but there is a button that shifts the displays from F to Centigrade, that is not the issue is it? My outside temp sensor is right on. I don't think we have run into this before. dgaouette
Unfortunately no, It will read 10 deg F when it is 21 deg F out. The new sensor was exactly the same!
JasonA
Was the new sensor a GM/ACDelco sensor? That's really odd -- I'm sure the sensor works like most others -- varying resistance based on temperature -- and the PCM is reading that resistance and interpolating the temperature based on a read-table. It sounds like there's a change in resistance on that line somehow. Perhaps frayed wiring or a burn in the wires somewhere? Seems like there's got to be something that's altering the expected resistance on that circuit. Jason(2001 STS, White Diamond) "When you turn your car on...does it return the favor?" BodybyFisher
Good Idea Jason, I will pull out my manual later and scan the circuit. I am curious now how this circuit works. I wonder what systems this will affect, HVAC, TIMING? 95SevilleSLS
That is very odd. I few times when I'll be driving around town it will jump up 10-20 degrees, but then go right back down again. One time it was 50 outside but the Cadillac had high hopes and was saying it was 75. It doesn't do it often, but I figure it's because the wind is blowing the hot air of the radiator onto it when i'm at a stop. -Dusty- - 02 Seville STS, white diamond - 93 Sixty Special, Tan with vinyl top - 79 Coupe DeVille, Tan with Tan top - 06 GMC Sierra Z71, Black - 92 Silverado C1500, black and grey - 83 Chevy K10 Silverado, Black and Grey
dgaouette
I'm not sure if the new sensor is a OEM as I pulled if off the vehicle that I purchased rims off of. It's not likely i would get 2 that were bad in the same mannor? I have the GM manual electronically and I can't even find the wiring for the Ambient sensor. I also can not find the temp value using the Tech 2 scan tool. Usually you can find most values with the scanner? I'll poke around some more tonight and see what I find. JimD
Poke around the IPM values with the Tech 2; the ambient air temperature sensor connects directly to the IPM. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE !
BodybyFisher
Here are a couple of scans that might be of help. dgaouette
Thanks for all the help. The service manual write up was the missing link!! I actually got to the A/D converter values and determined that in fact changing the sensor did change the temp but the display was not updating so it appeared to make no change. The manual write up posted solved the mystery. I just drove it and problem solved. Thanks againfor all the help - truely appreciated!!!!
