wbowditch
Hello Caddy folks, Im new to the site. I have a 2003 CTS with high miles and now have an engine light on. Dealer didnt exactly tell me what the code was. They told me I MIGHT need a new thermostat. Them darn fools want $816 for a thermostat and coolant flush. WOW! They must be outside their minds. I do have a couple of questions for anyone that can help me out. Is there a way I can see what code the caddy is throwing without going back to the dealer? Does anyone have know of a schematic that I can use to change this thermostat? Thanks to everyone that can help me out. Love the site.
Bruce Nunnally
With the ignition in the on position, but the engine off, press and hold the F1 and F6 buttons on the stereo. After a few seconds all the lights should flash on the dash, then the DIC should show DTCs and etc. Post any codes you find here. I don't recommend coolant flushes. Ask them to drain and refill, not flush. The thermostat replacement on the 03 CTS is fairly involved, as y ou have to remove the intake manifold: 1. Remove the thermostat housing. Refer to Thermostat Housing Replacement . 1. Remove the coolant outlet pipe. Refer to Coolant Pipe Replacement - Outlet . 2. Remove the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement in Engine Mechanical-2.6L and 3.2L. 3. Remove the thermostat housing bolts (1). 4. Remove the thermostat housing (2) with thermostat, from the engine. 5. Remove and discard the seal ring. 6. Remove the thermostat from the thermostat housing. Refer to Thermostat Replacement . 2. Complete the following in order to remove the thermostat from the thermostat housing: 1. Depress the ears on both sides of the thermostat. 2. Rotate the thermostat until it clears the retaining feature of the housing. 3. Release the pressure from the thermostat. 4. Pull the thermostat from the thermostat housing. Bruce Nunnally
Check the DTC list for a 2003 CTS here: http://www.caddyinfo.com/dtc_2003cts.htm The last letter H=history C=current. History means it has happened recently but is not happening at the moment; current means it is happening right now.
