KevinW
Sounds like the internal coolant loss has been occurring for some time; the coolant/oil sludge will accumulate in the cooler parts of the engine, like the rocker arm cover area (condensation). Again, in the case of the 4.x engines, the most likely suspect is the intake manifold gasket. ___________________________________________________
adallak
If you go for the 400 - 500$ option as Mike already mentioned earlier i would be willing to donate $25 in the 'Save Marika's STS' fund. I know it isn't a lot but i'm not the most rich man on this side of the pond and at least it's a start.... Let me know if this starts to take shape and i'll settle my promise one way or the other. Marc. Marika, let me add another $25 check to the "Save Marika's STS fund" . Please email me your mailing address and name and stay away of stealerships. Marika, has the car been running warm?, do you have a temp gage or a digital readout that you must call up? Do you keep an eye on temp?. Just a side bar here, >>> the temp gage to me, is the second most important gage behind the fuel gage, the temp gage is an immediate indication that something is amiss, and it alerts me to a problem that I must look into.. It took me sometime to get used to the ranges, now that I am, I am always in tune with it. Now that I fixed the crossover gaskets, heater hoses, green hoses, upper and lower hoses, radiator, heater pipes, water pump the temp swings are narrow.. (ahh the joy of owning a 12 yo vehicle), so don't think that repairs are limited to your car Marika, if I didn't do my own work, I would fill it with dirt, put a rope on each corner and make a planter out of it.... and I still might do so, now needing an engine mount and stabilizer link, ignition wires, a windshield...remember the song was it Sonny and Cher, AND THE BEAT GOES ON.... this car has been absolutely NOTHING but repairs, my 91, was amazing but it eventually had its day also. Marika
The engine was fine, in fact it was perfect, until today. As I stated, I noticed the temp went up this morning and then came back down. That's when I checked the antifreeze and got knocked over by the smell of exhaust fumes in the recovery tank. Nothing smells worse than pre-catalytic converter exhaust fumes Intake manifold? Is it possible? is it easy and cheap to fix? If you really want to make people safe drivers again then simply remove all the safety features from cars. No more seat belts, ABS brakes, traction control, air bags or stability control. No more anything. You'll see how quickly people will slow down and once again learn to drive like "normal" humans.

BodybyFisher
Wait a minute, while that gesture was generous of you, I think all will agree that my finding and inspecting the motor is worth more than $1.... in order for this to make sense Warren old chap, you need to anti up with coming to inspect it...otherwise, I have the edge ole boy.. Lets face the fact, this gas guzzling Deville of mine, with the gas prices where they are (and you don't want me going on the reasons why, you know the no politics understanding and all), it would easily cost me more than a dollar to drive to Lakewood...
