ANOTHER New Jersey get together!!

Yup, that's pretty insane, but yet people do it. Why? Do you earn $300,000 a year? I'm not sure why people choose to live in hi cost areas, it just doesn't make economical sense to me.

I live in a beautiful neighborhood, my 1500 sq ft home is worth about $250k, My taxes are $1300 a year and the average salary here is about $60k. Now I know that doesn't sound like a lot of income but it's 3 times what you need to survive. There's a pretty good quality of life here, generally speaking.

Our taxes on Long Island are $10,000 a year, I wanted to move to Scottsdale (South Mountain area) in 1991 and would have had the same salary. New homes were $100,000 and taxes were $600 per year. No one would go with me...

Speaking of Harbin, China. Check out this guys' great portfolio from Harbin, China. He seems to love it there, keeps going back.

If you really want to make people safe drivers again then simply remove all the safety features from cars. No more seat belts, ABS brakes, traction control, air bags or stability control. No more anything. You'll see how quickly people will slow down and once again learn to drive like "normal" humans.

Ah yes, Arizona. The land of "oh but it's dry heat"....LOL!!

Yeah, stick your head in an oven at 350F if you want to experience Arizona. I could never live in a place like Arizona or Southern California. I'm allergic to the sun and heat is my worst enemy. (However, at 20 below zero, I'm feeling great!! Think I'll be moving to Harbin, China... :yupi3ti: )

While I agree that it is a half a mile from the sun in June, July and August and hot as hell, the rest of the year its heavenly and they get rain 5 days a year. And while it is hot, you do not get uncomfortable from sweating as it evaporates immediately as opposed to Florida where you sweat through everything and it rains everyday... I HATE FLORIDA WEATHER.

In addition, we here in the NORTHEAST have at least three months that we lose and can't go outside, NOV, DEC and JAN and possibly FEB.

I am spoiled, I used to live in Havertown, PA, reasonable home prices and taxes about $2000 a year, so LONG ISLAND burns my arse...

I'll let you in on a little secret. Arizona has the highest levels of diabetes in the world. Why??? Evaporative heat. Dehydrates everyone without them even realizing it causing blood sugar levels to rise.

Not my idea of an ideal place to live and be healthy. You can keep Arizona. No thanks.

Um, that is why you drink water. To me its awareness. By the time you are thirsty, its too late, drink water constantly. You can be dehydrated HERE also, I am sure that a majority of people don't hydrate properly, its one of the reasons why I go to GOLDS GYM, to sweat out impurities, hydrate, etc

Scottsdale and Phoenix used to be my terratory from 1984 to 1991, I was there about 55 times on business usually for 4 days at a time and I used to run up Squaw Peak, about a one mile run straight up. Carrying water, you were fine, don't carry water and you faint and fall off the mountain, they lost about 3 City Slickers a year off the mountain because the were dehydrated. I carried water.

However any day you want to meet me on the 1, 2 and 3 subway in New York City TO and FROM work and sweat through your clothes 5 deep trying to get onto sardine can subway cars in 100 degree HUMID heat with people leaning on you, we can discuss this further.

You can drink all the water you want, it doesn't help the diabetes situation in Arizona. If it were that simple their hospitals wouldn't be filled with hyperglycemia cases now would they?

I got news for you (not to turn this into a war, which it's NOT), I GREW UP IN NEW YORK CITY. Manhattan. I rode the subways starting with high school. My goal in life is to get back to New York City. I wouldn't settle for anything else. So yeah, meet you on the 1, 2 and 3. Anytime!! :yupi3ti:

Arizona? you can go live with the scorpians, rattle snakes and mafia, I'll stick closer to home... :fighting0025::lol::P

NYC DIABETES EPIDEMIC ROCKS CITY WITH $500M PRICE TAG

By MAGGIE HABERMAN

July 25, 2007 -- The city's diabetes epidemic is taking a massive toll, with hospital costs at nearly a half-billion dollars a year and the death rate up a shocking 75 percent since the 1990s, a new report shows.

The report from the city Health Department, made public yesterday, reveals that roughly 700,000 residents have diabetes - with some 200,000 of them yet to be diagnosed.

And the cost of hospitalizations in 2003 was $481 million, almost double the $242 million price tag in 1990, according to the report - with New York City victims hospitalized at an almost 80 percent higher rate than people nationwide.

Fighting diabetes, an illness involving high levels of blood glucose, has been a priority of the Bloomberg administration.

"Diabetes is not only hurting our health, it's hurting our wallets," said Health Commissioner Dr. Tom Frieden.

"The rising cost of treating diabetes is an unsustainable burden on our health system and economy. But even worse, behind these statistics are tragic individual stories that challenge our city and our health system to respond."

Among other grim details of the report:

* The Greenwich Village area saw a 47 percent increase in diabetes deaths from 1994-1995 to 2002-2003.

* In the Rockaways section of Queens, there was an eye-popping 75 percent spike in the same time frame, while Canarsie in Brooklyn saw a 49 percent hike.

* The largest boroughwide percentage increases were in The Bronx and Queens, while Manhattan and Staten Island both saw diabetes death rates go down.

* Diabetes-related amputations skyrocketed by 19 percent from 1994 to 2003 in The Bronx, 6 percent in Brooklyn, 8 percent in Queens and 2 percent in Manhattan.

* The Bronx also saw hospitalizations increase 45 percent in that same period.

* From 2002 to 2004, the Mott Haven-Hunts Point section of The Bronx had the highest diabetes rate of any neighborhood, with 16.9 percent.

* Two Manhattan neighborhoods, the Upper East Side and Gramercy Park, had the lowest rates, at 3.1 percent and 1.7 percent respectively.

* The rate of any type of diabetes among women carrying babies went up 47 percent from 1990 to 2003.

The illness disproportionately affects blacks and Hispanics. In fact, Hispanics have seen a 169 percent increase in diabetes-related deaths since 1990.

The study also found that cigarette smoking increases the risk of diabetes, and that poorer people have a more difficult time managing the disease - which can't be cured but can be minimized through diet, exercise and lifestyle choices.

The report was produced using statistics culled from several sources, including a community health survey, and hospital, birth and death records.

Mike, let me help you with your luggage.

Millions of people in New York City, of course there's going to be diabetes and AIDS and everything else you could imagine. I still love New York and you can keep the kitty litter box.

Quick facts according to the census bureau:

Population of state of Arizona as of 2006: 6,166,318

Population of New York City as of 2003 (last figure posted): 8,085,742

Population of New York State as of 2006: 19,306,183

Diabetes in Arizona

In 2004 there were 279,964 people in Arizona, or 4.8% of the population.

You read the New York Post????

Yes, they'll be diabetics in New York City but it won't be caused by the weather.

If you really want to make people safe drivers again then simply remove all the safety features from cars. No more seat belts, ABS brakes, traction control, air bags or stability control. No more anything. You'll see how quickly people will slow down and once again learn to drive like "normal" humans.

Yes, I am seeing reports of thundershowers all weekend on the elevator in my building (Captivate Network). Do we have an alternate date in case of rain?

Yes I am proud to say that I read the New York Post and listen to Rush Limbaugh and Hannity.

To quote a rag that you probably respect, the left listing New York Slimes, NYC is the EPICENTER for Diabetes!

There are 700,000 cases of diabetes in NYC now and it's rising, that is a lot and I am positive that its under counted as is the population. Given the size of NYC's population everything is out of kilder when you look at it as a % of total or per capita.

The statistic that CRACKS me UP is the Home Land Security funds that are given to NYC, on a per capita basis its so much LESS than say, Kansas City, SO WHAT, we get way more than any other municipality, to look at it on a per capita basis is idiotic.

As a matter of fact, NYC gets $134 million the most in the country and a little less than twice as much as the second place recipient of funds, Los Angeles. http://www.dhs.gov/xlibrary/assets/grants_st-local_fy07.pdf Of course the outlets like CNN love to whine and cry about per capita:

No to worry I drink 64 oz of water a day, I will take my chances, I also run out there to acclimate to the heat. I think you need a psychiatrist.

If you really want to make people safe drivers again then simply remove all the safety features from cars. No more seat belts, ABS brakes, traction control, air bags or stability control. No more anything. You'll see how quickly people will slow down and once again learn to drive like "normal" humans.
