  1. Hello folks I own a 1999 Cadillac Deville and I was told by my mechanic that I have a blown headgasket... We have tried using blue devil headgasket sealer which worked for about 1 day and then the overheating appeared again. I was quoted by my mechanic that the job to fix the engine would cost anywhere between 2500-5000 dollars depending on the severity of the damage. Coolant was replaced thermostat was replaced... unfortunately this did not fix the issue I rely on my Cadillac heavily for work and I need a inexpensive fix and fast one ASAP that will last me and not pillage my bank account so that I can continue working. if anyone has any advice on how and what I should do thanks...
  2. More information and photo's of the condition he left the man's Cadillac in after Carroll dropped it off at the Princeton, Texas, Walmart: http://victimsoftimcarroll.blogspot.com/2017/05/tim-carroll-sued-in-collin-county.html
  3. Hello everyone, 96 Cadillac Northstar 4.6L Symptoms high idle and constant revv So I pulled the Intake manifold and coolant started to leak out of the bolt hole(Closest to plug 8) under the intake. Picture included, the leak will stop with the bolt hand tight with the intake off. No Codes. I am wondering is this a head gasket or something else? Would sealant be a bad idea? PS Picture I grabbed from the internet. My car is not this dirty
  4. Get off the wagon people! I have been working on these cars for 20 PLUS years from the conception in 1993. I have not had any issues with timeserts let alone NORMS inserts and I am not the only one obviously using these inserts. They work period and with the thousand of head gaskets let alone hundred or so rebuilds i have done without any issues. LEAD DON'T FOLLOW....
  5. Video from, YouTube: Bruce is on business travel tonight and couldn't be here. Tonight was a monologue by Cadillac Jim. Topics were Cadillac chassis dynamics, other GM platforms, commuting in a Cadillac...
  6. Hello, I Recently bought a Cadillac deville from a private party and everything was working fine (well except the gas indicator. it wld appear full all the time and out of nowhere the car shut down from running out of gas, but thats another issue for later though) So later on today, in about 4 hrs to be exact, i have to drive 5.2 hrs, so i went to fill up on gas, and as soon as im done pumping and start the car, i get the "Service stability sys" warning and my "ABS" "BRAKE" & "TRACTION CONTROL" lights come and stay on. So I parked and shut down the car, read the little booklet that came with it, turned the car back on since it told me to try that and the message was still there. So i looked online and found a forum that somewhat talked about my issue and it told me to look up the codes and so i did and here's what i got: - ABS : C1214 Current : C1248 Current - IPM : B0419 History : B0429 Current : B1004 History - IRC : U1064 History : U1016 History - PCM : P0463 History : P1617 History - RIM : C0658 History - SDM : B0041 Current If you know anything about this please let me know as soon as possible how to fix it or at least let me know if i should take this trip or not.
  7. I thought I had JE5 brake discs but after putting on one of the Duralast disc I bought from AutoZone, I was concerned that I bought the wrong size. The Duralast was obviously bigger than what was on the car. I'm thinking, it looks like the caliper bracket may not fit. So, I put the disc on--and thought--WOW! That is one pretty big disc! But, what do you know, the bracket fit with about 1/16 to 1/8-inch to spare. Apparently, the discs that were on were not the right ones, which explains why my brakes are gouged/grooved on the inside. The rotors I replaced didn't have enough surface area to accommodate the larger JE5 brakes. I suspected something wasn't right and now the new discs confirm that I was driving around with undersized discs. What else, since the Duralast discs are for JE5 brakes, have more surface area, and fit. My guess--and most logical answer--is that the original factory discs were replaced before I bought the car with the wrong ones. Now I have to replace the brakes a soon as possible, so I don't damage the discs. I also have Duralast on the rear. So far, so good. They are holding up well after at least 6 months.
  8. I have a 98 Deville with a 4.6L v8 northstar. About a week ago, my car overheated. Let it cool down and turns out, all my water was gone! So, I found out that once the car gets up to running temp, pressure is pushing water out of the overflow tube, (there is only one reservoir with a tube right by the cap) untill there is no water left! Checked my oil, it's clean so I'm hoping it's not a faulty head gasket. But I think its weird that water is just coming right back out? Somebody please help me.. This car is the love of my life, but if I'm looking at over $3,000 in labor cause of a HG I think it's time to say goodbye. So someone please give me some good news!!! Also, it's not the thermostat. Just replaced that today.
  9. Hi um ive been having trouble with my beautiful black 96 cadillac eldorado.. one day after coming home from the gym. I was getting ready to leave again but my car immediately shut off after ignition.. this has happened before since ive had battery issues but I fixed that so it came as a surprise.. I cranked it once more and boom I heard a loud knock.. cranked it again and nothin.. the car wouldn't stay on.. I replaced the fuel filter checked the fuel pump psi even the ignition switch which a mechanic swore was the issue.. and wanted to charge me $500 with labor and parts for the ignition switch.. however I contacted my personal lock smith and he told me that was impossible the car wouldnt even turn on if it was the switch.. so now im here thinking about what it could be.. the "Car may not start" warning has always been on since I got the car.. it never gave me no problems.. ive had the car 5 years.. the emissions system warning however did start flashing a couple months prior and it would go away so I ignored it.. I came across another forum with a guy that owned an ETC he took his to the Dealer to replace the Nylon fuel rail with a steel fuel rail.. his car was up and running.. they told him to get a new regulator and an oil change bc fuel may have leaked into the oil.. any help?? To keep it short the car turns on for a few seconds and shuts off immediately after especially when pressing the pedal.. appreciate any hel thx
  10. Mine is a 95 Cadillac Eldorado has 30,000 miles on it. Clean! one question, my brake lights work fine. But the other day I got stopped by a dumb *smurf* cop who said they were out, keep in mind it was bright as day outside at this time. So I was like ok. When I went into my garage, being it's dark in my garage, my automatic lights turned. I got out of my car and what do you know! My brake lights are on! And when pressed on the brake pedal they get brighter as well. When I backed out of the garage in the daylight of course the automatic lights turned off, but this time I pressed to button for my lights to come on and STILL..my brake lights work! So the reason for me writing this is to ask if anyone knows that the feature for the tail light brake lights to not be on during the daylight and only the brake light in the back window to be on during daylight is a feature thats normal? Like is it a feature that Cadillac made to save energy?
  11. I hope I am posting in the right spot. I have a 1997 Eldorado ETC, 108K miles. It had a crack in the radiator upper right side. I replaced the radiator and tstat, but, its still overheating after about 15 miles. I have flushed the block and new radiator, cooling fans work, pass over not plugged. I have run it with and with out tstat. I am at wits end. All I can come up with is the heater core (which shows on signs of leakage) It has also developed a good miss, I think I need to replace a couple coils, no biggie, unless it is related to this. Any help or advise is GREATLY appreciated.
  12. OK, guys, here we are. Bruce doesn't seem to be on tonight so I'm going to open a Google+ Hangout. If Texas Jim joins in, we will have a live video right here, which will morph to a YouTube embedded video when we are done. Topics: Anything goes tonight, so long as it's Cadillac related and interesting to others. I'm going to raise the topic of tires, because I plan to get new tires before the snow comes.
  13. I just purchased OEM 18 inch wheels off of ebay for my 2005 STS, which has performance (JE5) brakes and, as most of you are probably aware, the 18 inch wheels were an option (QF8 option). I'm curious if anyone has experience upgrading from 17 to 18 inch wheels and what was your assessment. By the way, I say "upgrading" loosley because some people may not view larger wheels as an upgrade, especially if ride comfort is sacrificed. To this end, I'm not sure if ride comfort will be sacrificed with larger wheels since, from what I have read, the quality of tires are more important to comfort than upgrading one more inch of wheel diameter.
  14. My dad and I are huge fans of Cadillacs and Evel Knievel. In the 60s and 70s when Knievel would tour he would show up in the stadiums in his Cadillac Caribou or Mirage with two bikes in the back. I've got a Knievel jump bike so we had to have the Caribou for shows. The Caribou is what I own and had only three windows. The Mirage was another type of cadillac pickup that had a small opera window on the side panels. Long story short, we have been looking for a Caribou ( I like the design better) for years and finally found one in California. We bought it sight unseen and got it here, in Chicago. It was absolute junk, the bed and roof are all one piece of fiberglass. The rest of the car is a completely stock Coupe DeVille. They even left the bottom half of the back seat in under the bed. Ours was in such poor disrepair that we bought another coupe deville, made the cuts that would have been made when caribou did it, extracted the fiberglass bed from the junk cadillac and made it our own. At the two links below you can see the entire process. A little history on Caribou Coach Builders - Coach builder in the 50s-70s Took Coupes and made them into station wagons, pick ups, lengthened the hood, lots of weird conversions that never really took off Gene Winfield, a good friend of mine and famous metal fabricator, ran the shop and built most of the Caribous by hand Only five are known to have been built in 1973. I've done tons of research and can only find three (including mine) They were marketed to "the man who already has everything" http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/tag/cadillac-caribou/ There are tons of blogs. Its a neat little thing. Thanks for the interest. Also feel free to take a look around at all our cars. Im 19 and my fathers 48, we just love Cadillacs. We build and restore them strictly as a hobby and own around 15 of them. Our latest project is a 1955 Cadillac Convertible rest-mod with a fuel injected 2010 GM LS-2 engine, 4L60E Trans, Air/Heat, and all power options. http://geezer-racing.com/Geezer-Racing.com/Car_Inventory/Pages/1973_Cadillac_Caribou.html http://geezer-racing.com/Geezer-Racing.com/Restorations/Pages/1973_Caribou.html
