97sts,
What I would Suggest is to get as technical as possible when assessing the
problems. For the head to leak coolant, it seems strange. My understanding
is the coolant will usually leak into a cylinder, not to the atmosphere. Be sure where it is leaking.
(Read up in the archives about coolant leaks...)
"... infamous oil pan leak problem. "
Read up on this web site. Most, if not all, people live with it, as the leakage is
litterally drops, or any significant amount of oil...
Probably do not need to fix now, however, if the car is out for headgasket/timeserting, that would be the time. As you will read, dino oil is better than synthetic for keeping any half-case leakage to a minimum. Hi mileage oils are best (?).
I know what you are saying when you say you love the car. Figure out what
exactly needs to be done and consider how cheap this car will be to drive for
the next 100,000 miles, compared to a new car with those payments, insurance, etc.
EVERY TIME I get into my '99 STS I remember why I love the car. Handling, Power, & Ride Sell me every time!
Enjoy your STS!
