  2. at 60,000 miles the differential got loose and started thumping on hard acceleration and downshifts when slowing down, when checked the fluid looked like neversieze and there were fingernail sized chunks of gear in the fluid, upon investigation the diff seals were replaced by Cadillac on recall at 15,000 miles, yet they refused to do anything about it even though it was obviously a factory defect. differentials don't go out twice in 60,000 miles. my research has shown that it is somewhat common on the sts, due to out of spec diff seals from the factory.I threatened to never buy another Cadillac to Cadillac, but I was totally lying I still love the car and would love to have a new cts v sport
  3. hey look around and be patient guys, I bought an 06 sts 2010 with fourty thousand miles on it for $17,000 from a dealer, it was spotless
  4. the factory recommended oil is printed on the oil fill cap. they recommend mobil one 5w30,but as z15 stated, any full synthetic that meets the factory standard in 5w30 is acceptable, I run strictly royal purple 5w 30, but that is just a personal preference.

I used to own a 93 sts and did do the brakes on it, but it has been about four years since I did. it should be pretty accurate most disc brakes are very similar so for the most part if you have done one you can do MOST. There are small variations from car to car, but very minor variations and the main process is the same.

Its pretty simple once you take a good look at it. you will have to jack it up and remove the wheel . look on the back side of the rotor and caliper. you will see two bolts that hold the caliper to its bracket. remove those two bolts and pry the caliper up out of the bracket with a flat screw driver or pry bar . then slide the pads out. next remove the cap from the brake fluid reservoir because the fluid will rise as you push the pistons back into the caliper. now get a large C clamp, C clamp vice grips, or even a large pair of channellocks, and push the piston all the way until it stops back into the caliper. if you need to replace the rotors then you will have to remove the caliper bracket also(two more bolts), and slide the rotor off of the studs(you may need to whack it a couple times with a mallet to get it to come loose), and the reverse to reinstall it with the new rotor. slide the new pads back into the caliper bracket, and the compressed caliper back over the new pads, and reinstall the bolts that hold the caliper to the caliper bracket. that's it you should also lube the slides that the caliper slides back and forth on, they will have a very small packet of the recommended lube at the counter at your local auto parts retailer.
  7. Hi all, this is my first post on this, or any forum for that matter. I am the proud owner of a 2006 sts , and I am experiencing some serious oil issues. my car has about 100,000 miles on it now, it has never used a drop of oil in the past(have owned it since it had 40,000 on it) even with 12000 mile oil changes (Royal Purple and k&n filter) and I have developed a substantial oil leak. the big kicker is its not even close to consistent. Some times after not adding anything for a month, the dipstick will be almost right on, other times it goes off the dipstick in a matter of a couple days. As far as I can tell the leak is coming from the top rear of the engine ,seems to be pressurized oil. I put it up on a lift and the leak would speed up when the engine was revved, and nearly stop at idle. on the lift and on the ground I couldn't see where the leak originated .I expected it to be an oil pressure sending unit, but after searching this site I found that it is located above the oil filter/adapter, which kinda rules that out. so I guess the question is does anyone know of any pressurized oil that would on the top rear of the engine. I apologize for being so long winded, but I figure its better to give all the most accurate info i can straight off, so thank you in advance for any knowledge that can be bestowed upon me.
